UA Online Accommodations

ODS strives to implement accommodations for distance learners in a manner consistent with that of resident students. Requests for accommodation from distance learners require the same level of disclosure and follow the same procedures as resident students.

Information about ODS is included in the UA Online orientation module.  You can also find helpful information on the following pages:

Testing Accommodations and Exam Proctoring

Examity

For exams that require use of Examity, your instructor is responsible for notifying UA Online Testing Services of your accommodations. Once UA Online Testing Services receives notice, your accommodations will be added in Blackboard and your proctoring portal. You will receive a confirmation email from UA Online Testing Services (onlinetesting@ua.edu).

If your exam is approaching and you have not received a confirmation email from UA Online Testing Services, please contact them directly at onlinetesting@ua.edu and include your instructor on the email. If you sign in to begin an exam and your accommodations are not available, do not proceed with the exam. Contact your instructor and Accommodations Specialist immediately to seek resolution. You will not be charged for an Examity session if this occurs.

Please note: Extended time will be visible in Blackboard, but you won’t see extended time reflected in Examity until you sign in to begin the exam.

Smarter Proctoring

For exams that require use of Smarter Proctoring, your instructor is responsible for notifying UA Online Testing Services of your accommodations.

Please note: You must create a Smarter Proctoring account first so that UA Online Testing Services can add accommodations to your proctoring portal. However, accommodations cannot be added to exams that are already scheduled. So, it’s best to ensure your Smarter Proctoring account is set up at the beginning of the term, but wait until you receive a confirmation email from UA Online Testing Services prior to scheduling your first exam.

Respondus and other proctoring materials

For all other proctoring methods (i.e., Respondus, virtual proctoring through your instructor, etc.), your instructor is responsible for providing accommodations. Reach out to your instructor regarding any arrangements that need to be made.
